CareCompass

Privacy and safety

CareCompass is built so a family can try it without creating an account or sending a medical chart to a database we run.

Where your notes live
This browser, unless you choose live AI.

Report text, explanations, question lists, and journal entries are saved in localStorage on this device. There is no login and no CareCompass server database of health records.

Clearing site data, using a private window, or tapping reset in the browser settings removes those notes. They are not backed up by this app.

Demo mode never needs a key. Sample reports are fictional. When demo mode is on, explanations are generated from on-device templates even if a key exists.

Optional live language model

To use a live model, set these environment variables and turn demo mode off:

  • LLM_API_KEY (or OPENAI_API_KEY)
  • LLM_BASE_URL (defaults to the OpenAI API)
  • LLM_MODEL (defaults to gpt-4o-mini)

In that mode, the text you submit is sent to the provider you configured so it can be explained. This app still does not store that text after the response returns. Read the provider's own retention policy before sending real records.

What the app will not do

It will not diagnose. It will not recommend or rank treatments. It will not predict survival or recurrence. Requests like those are refused, and the refusal still includes the safety disclaimer.

Red-flag cards are educational copies of public patient pages from the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society. They are not a substitute for the after-hours instructions your own clinic printed for you.
